Open source community building, engagement and outreach

Minimal would have been the right word for Gitter compared to Slack. I feel Gitter is more simple to onboard to compared to IRC.

CockroachDB is setting an example on how the community has to groomed. Its called contribution because people do it out of love and appreciation for a great product and its ease of use. Without great usability its not possible to reach far and enable everyone to create a revolution. This magic is possible only is in open source, the right and scalable way to attract contributors is to work hard towards building a product which is extremely easy to use and get started and thus forcing adoption into their machines, and the community will show the love back in various ways!
